# Poll Types in Askplane: Choice, Cloud, Quiz, and More

> Askplane supports six poll types: multiple choice, word cloud, quiz, rating, open text, and ranking. Learn when to use each and how attendees answer.

Askplane supports six interaction types that cover every common live-session need: from quick checkpoints to open brainstorms to competitive quizzes. Each poll type renders on the current slide with live results updating as attendees vote from their phones or laptops.

## Poll types

### Choice

Choice is a standard multiple-choice poll where attendees select one option from a list. Results appear as a **live bar chart** showing vote counts and percentages for each option, updating in real time as responses come in.

**When to use it:** Run a Choice poll for preference checks, decision votes, or "where does the room stand" questions where you need a quick, unambiguous read of the audience.

**How attendees answer:** Attendees tap one option on their screen. Only a single selection is allowed per person.

### Cloud

Cloud collects short text answers and renders them as a **word cloud**: the more often a word or phrase appears across responses, the larger it grows on screen.

**When to use it:** Cloud works well for brainstorms, vocabulary checks, mood reads, or classic "one word to describe X" prompts. It surfaces consensus and surprises at a glance.

**How attendees answer:** Attendees type a short word or phrase into the response field.

### Quiz

Quiz is a multiple-choice poll with a designated correct answer. Results display as a bar chart during voting, and after the voting period closes the host reveals the correct answer to the room. On the Paid plan, a **live leaderboard** tracks top scorers across all quiz questions in the session.

**When to use it:** Use Quiz for knowledge checks, training quizzes, or certification-prep sessions where accountability and engagement matter.

**How attendees answer:** Attendees tap the option they believe is correct.

  The live leaderboard is a **Paid plan** feature. On the Free plan, quiz results display the correct answer without leaderboard scoring.

### Rating

Rating presents a **1–5 scale** and displays results as an average score alongside a distribution breakdown showing how many respondents chose each value.

**When to use it:** Rating is ideal for NPS-style pulse checks, session satisfaction scores, or prompts like "rate the session so far" when you want a numeric summary rather than raw text.

**How attendees answer:** Attendees tap a number from 1 to 5 on their screen.

### Text

Text is a free-form open-response poll. Individual answers appear as a **scrolling live feed** on the slide, giving the room a real-time view of what people are thinking without any aggregation.

**When to use it:** Use Text for open questions, feedback collection, or prompts like "what's your biggest concern" where you want the full breadth of responses rather than a forced choice.

**How attendees answer:** Attendees type a free-form response of any length into the text field.

### Rank

Rank asks attendees to order a list of options by preference or priority. Results are combined across all respondents to produce a single **aggregate ranked list** showing the audience's collective ordering.

**When to use it:** Use Rank for priority votes, "what matters most" exercises, or any scenario where you need to order a set of options rather than pick just one.

**How attendees answer:** Attendees drag the options into their preferred order on their screen.

## AI-generated poll options

When you set an **organization name** on your event, Askplane can generate answer options using that org's product names and terminology. Instead of generic placeholders like "Option A" or "Option B", the choices read like the meeting: using the actual names and phrases that organization uses day-to-day.

This means a quiz about your product roadmap will surface real feature names, a choice poll about team priorities will list actual initiatives, and a rank poll will use terminology your attendees already recognize. AI-generated options are available for **Choice**, **Quiz**, and **Rank** poll types.

  Combine poll types in one session for best results: run a Choice poll to check the room's understanding, then open Q\&A for follow-up questions, then close with a Rank poll to set priorities.
